MARTIN

GHOSTLIGHT presents MARTIN, a celebration of Swiss composer Frank Martin with special guests VOIX DE LAUSANNE from Switzerland

Join GHOSTLIGHT for the opening concert of their eighth season, a program centering on one of the twentieth century’s masterpieces of unaccompanied choral music—Mass for Double Choir by Frank Martin—which they will perform together with the choral ensemble VOIX DE LAUSANNE, touring from Martin’s native Switzerland. Hidden away for over four decades after its composition, the piece was finally published in 1963, a change of heart on Martin’s part that we hope you agree was extremely fortuitous.

Before joining forces, the choirs will each perform a piece by themselves. GHOSTLIGHT will perform another gem by Martin: the Songs of Ariel, lively settings of five pieces from Shakespeare’s The Tempest. VOIX DE LAUSANNE will then present the U.S. premiere of Canadian composer Jérôme Berney’s Blue Stabat Mater, an inventive pastiche of classical and jazz styles.

The ensembles will perform the program in both Brooklyn and Manhattan. A wine reception will follow each concert.
