Dear friends of GHOSTLIGHT,
I'm pleased to invite you to our spring concert, which holds at its center The Song Among Us, a new work by composer Moira Smiley who blends folk, classical, and jazz styles with movement and improvisation, resulting in a truly original and immersive experience. Together we will be exploring our shared joys and sorrows through a musical structure that is loosely based on two ceremonies of transformation—the five movements of a Mass and the shape of a meditation or therapy session.
We will be joined by special guests
- The Reverend Kate Malin in the role of speaker
- Mary Gatchell on piano and
- Galen DeGraf on percussion
In addition, we'll perform several shorter works by other contemporary composers, including David Lang's "again," Jake Runestad's "Fireflies," Blake Wilson's "Caedmon's Hymn," and Jaakko Mäntyjärvi's "Pseudo-Yoik."
The concert takes place at Christ's Church Rye, and can be easily reached via Metro North if you are coming from the city.
In the spirit of connection and communion, a wine reception will follow the performance.
